2 Day Course
This course was created for engineers whose job requires that they keep current with the latest head technology and its implications. The class covers the GMR effect, how head structures are built to exploit this effect, how the head functions when used at high areal densities, and how GMR heads impact drive design and operation. The issues of manufacturing GMR heads and how they impact head performance are discussed. This class does not require previous expertise with magnetic recording physics.
Participants should have a technical background and a good familiarity with how disk drives function internally. (The Disk Drive Technology course is excellent preparation.)
