The latest read channels feature iterative detectors and probabilistic decoding of LDPC-like (Low Density Parity Check) codes. They provide improved detection while balancing the requirements for lower power and increased speed. Iterative detection channels mark the biggest change in read channels since the widespread adoption of PRML. (Partial Response Maximum Likelihood) in the early 1990’s.

This 1-Day seminar introduces data storage professionals to the concepts of soft detection, iterative detection and decoding, extrinsic information, and practical architectures. It provides worked examples for SOVA (Soft Output Viterbi Algorithm) detection and probabilistic decoding of an LDPC code. The benefits and drawbacks of iterative channels are explored.

Attending KnowledgeTek’s PRML/NPML/DDNP classes, or comparable industry experience, will satisfy the prerequisites.
