iSCSI Schedule for this course

2 Day Course

The iSCSI standard both complements, and is a replacement for, Fibre Channel in Storage Area Network (SAN) applications. It is a new addition to the TCP/IP family of protocols, and enables the transmission of SCSI commands and data across any IP network. This course starts with an examination of networked storage to understand the underlying need for a new protocol. After a review of SCSI and TCP/IP, the course continues with the concepts behind iSCSI network structure and the model for storage I/O. The iSCSI packet format and the use of the sequencing and acknowledgment fields is covered in depth. A practical application perspective is included with an examination of error recovery, available diagnostic tools, and a comparison with Fibre Channel.

The iSCSI protocol is a synthesis of knowledge from the fields of mass storage and computer networking. Professionals from technical marketing, design engineers, applications and systems engineers, and test engineers will benefit from the insight provided by this course. A basic familiarity with computers, SCSI, and TCP/IP is assumed.
