Disk Drive Servo Schedule for this course

2 Day Course

This course is intended for those who need a broad and in-depth understanding of disk drive servo systems. While no previous knowledge of control systems theory is required, participants will learn how disk drive servo systems are designed and tuned. Control systems fundamentals are introduced as the track following and seeking systems are covered. The course explores in depth the parameters that determine performance and stability, as well as the many practical details which affect disk drive servo system designs. Actual servo architectures used in today's drives are covered in detail. Advanced topics such as modern digital control systems, state estimators, multirate control, and the impact of MR heads are also presented. The course finishes with a discussion of servo technologies required to support the next generation of high TPI disk drives.

Participants should have taken the Disk Drive Technology course or have equivalent industry experience.
